Being a bihari student currently in class 12th, I think I can answer this question.
- Science stream: only 30% students passed. You know why? Those students who do not like science, too end up taking science due to opression of their parents, as it will retain their social status.
- Arts stream: Here also only about 30% students passed, why? Because they think taking up arts could make them pass even without studying. Can you believe, we still think arts is easier and could be taken as granted.
- Commerce: Yeah almost 73%students passed. Why? Because this is the stream which is not an option. Students choose this stream only when they really want to study this.
- One other reason, its “Jio”. I have about 10 friends, who are senior than me, and this year only two of them passed. Why? I've seen them online on facebook and whatsapp, 10 days before exams, 7 days before exam, 3 days before exam and even night before exam.
- People will say this kind of results are due to lack of good professors in colleges. But it is not that right! Becoming a professor in government colleges are really tough since years. They are good enough! But students try to skip colleges just for sake of private tution. I’ve never seen any students giving boards without taking tutions. Tell me which professor would like to teach properly if students woluld bunk colleges!
There is nothing to do with government, results are not good due to strict checking, which is Okay! If you still think students failed due to administration, then how topper got 86%?
Coaching is becoming inevitable primarily because of the following reasons:
- Fierce competition
- Limited number of good colleges
- Lack of proper guides in school
- Sharma Ji’s son is also in coaching
The worst thing about coaching is that a majority of them are run by Mafias who have made education such a heinous business that they even involve in leaking papers of various competitive exams.
It might shock you after knowing that even the question paper of AIEEE in 2011 was leaked from Patna only.
The coaching culture has destroyed the essence of education. It has reduced the scope of education from learning to mere cracking competitive exams.
My experience in my coaching was very terrible.
I was in St. Xavier’s Patna till class 10th and there, we used to have smart classes, equipped with digital boards, projector and other modern teaching methods. Teachers were excellent and they emphasized more on learning than just passing exams. Learning was interesting.
When I came in 11th, there was a hue and cry of IIT, Practice papers, mock tests, top batch in coaching, cream students etc.
I recall asking conceptual questions out of curiosity to teachers in coaching and getting a reply: It will not be asked in IIT.
Several times the physics teacher mocked me for asking questions out of IIT domain.
I used to wonder more how a capacitor looks like, where it is used than to wonder how to solve the H.C Verma problems on Capacitors.
I could use internet to quench my curiosity however the teacher said “Don’t use internet for studies”.
I also recall once I solved some problem by some different technique and the teacher disregarded it as I did not solve it by the method which he taught!
This was how teachers killed curiosity inside a majority of the students. I am glad, I left the coaching midway.
Although I couldn’t make into IITs or NITs however I managed to survive boards without any guide, neither at coaching nor at school. Self Study that’s it! I am happy with 68% .
More than 70% of the students are enrolled in some or the other coaching in all over Bihar. They learn how to solve a MCQ which is asked in IIT but unfortunately there is hardly anyone to teach the theoretical and practical aspects of the subject.
I feel, this is the biggest reason for the failure of educational setup in Bihar.
Anand Kishore, The Chairman of Bihar Board is known for his strict administration. His tenure as the D.M of Siwan 11 years back earned him a title “Atank Kishore”.
After the topper scam, the BSEB has tighten the screw and this time the papers were checked more strictly.
This was the reason that most of the students failed this time.
Qualifying JEE mains and failing in class 12th was the result of these two factors.
Who is responsible:
“A” is born in a village in Bihar. His father works in Pvt firm in Punjab and earns good enough money.
Now “A” is about the age to attend nursery school. So A's parents admit him in one pvt nursery school while simultaneously admitting him in the Anganwadi. The only purpose for A's simultaneous admission into the Anganwadi is to avail the freebies alloted to Anganwadi kids from Bihar govt.
An Anganwadi in Bihar Village.
10% of freebies goes to Anganwadi administration for the fake admission and this is the First stage of CORRUPTION in education in Bihar.
Now, A has grown up and is admitted to a Pvt school(Not affiliated most of the times) in the nearest town. A's parents think govt schools and teachers are not good, but govt freebies are. Hence A is again simultaneously admitted into govt school as well.
Now A is in class 10 and it's time for registration for Board exams. A is registered through govt school because his Pvt school wasn't affiliated. A seems to be worried about his papers, But his coaching sir says
Cheating is the perfect solution.
So A cheats in Matric exams, his parents aren't bothered and neither is the govt. A pays money for Practical marks. Yes! In Bihar Board, you don't give Practicals, you give money for marks.
Results are announced, A gets first division, thinks how easy peasy it is to pass the exams.
With High Morale A applies for Intermediate exams through Bihar Board again. This time he doesn't even bothers to go to school apart from those days when he has to fill certain forms.
Yes! In Bihar Board you don't need to attend school in Intermediate, you pay the money and your attendance is made. Even teachers don't attend. So it's kind of Okay. Isn't it !!
Now the govt decides to tighten the noose on cheating because it has been humiliated by the pictures of mass cheating in its regime travelling all the way to UK and US.
Now A finds himself in a tough situation. He hasn't studied the entire 1.5 years. Suddenly, hears this news of ban on cheating. He is panicked. He however studies hard enough, thinking that he might at least pass.
A gives the paper in No Cheating zone. Tries to give his best. Now his papers are checked by those same teachers whom he and his parents neglected as incapable in first place.
Those same teachers, who didn't come to classes in school and colleges. At that time neither A and his Parents nor Govt had any problem with those teachers. They did not speak up at that time.
Now results are announced. A fails in two subjects. Neither A nor his parents can believe it. They all cry Corruption and Negligence. But do they really have the right ??
That my dear friends is the story of Bihar Board and it's students By and Large.
Now you decide whose fault is it ??. The govt?, The student's ? His parents? The teachers? Or the society as whole??.
