CBSE class x preparation tips

Since CBSE Class X follows semester pattern, it is important to study evenly throughout the year instead of cramming in the eleventh hour before exams.

Following are some specific tips:

English(Communicative)

  • Read NCERT line by line. If you have some difficulty in comprehending some lessons, use a good reference book.
  • Read your unabridged novel at least once. Go through the summary a day before exam.
  • Download past question papers and attempt the questions in grammar part to get a grip over that part.
  • Be thorough with formats for Section B(Writing Skills). Write short and grammatically correct sentences and try to use flowery language here and there.

Mathematics

  • Be thorough with NCERT. There’s a high probability that proof/theorem questions appear directly from your book. Don’t ignore the optional exercises.
  • Solve past year question papers or get a chapterwise question bank.
  • Go for RD Sharma, after completing the above two.

Science

  • Each and every line o your NCERT textbook is important. Solve both the book back questions and question boxes given inside the lesson.
  • For practicals, attempt as many questions(MCQs) as possible given in back side of each lesson your guide/textbook. I suggest you to use Goyal publisher’s guide.
  • Again, go through past year question papers. Also, go through previous year marking schemes to get an idea about expected key words.

Social Science

  • Read from NCERT. Don’t follow any other guide.
  • While reading, underline the keywords and important years with a colour pen, so that, it’d be easy while revising.
  • Again, go through past year question papers. Also, go through previous year marking schemes to get an idea about expected key words.
  • Many students lose mark in this subject because they entirely write in their own language. While it is not wrong to write in your own words, one should also keep in mind to include some key words.

Some general tips:

  • Be attentive in class.
  • While learning, please make sure that you understand whatever you’re reading. Simply mugging it up won’t help as CBSE may corner you using HOTS questions.
  • Don’t stress out too much.
  • Try to distribute your study load over a period instead of cramming the entire syllabus in a few days.

Cheers!! All the Best!
